We are going to be blacking out the walls, and maybe the ceilings also with black landscaping plastic. You could also cut up black garbage bags & do it, but it takes more time, and isn't as dark. It should be really cool because the glow-in-the-dark stars will look great on it! We are also going to making a spaceship out of a big box, just like the handbooks suggest. 2 more weeks till VBS!

We are using the black plastic idea to use in our assembly area. We bought the night sky projection kit and plan to use that in the room. We are also planning on using those push lights along the walls so that you can see in the dark.

We have also recycled cereal boxes and the like by making stars out of them. After cutting them out we spray painted them silver and will punch a hole in one end and hang from the ceiling with fishing line.

We also made some recycled decorations from old unwanted CDs and styrofoam balls. We made them into saturn. You cut the styrofoam ball in half and then glue back together after placing a cd in the the middle so that the ball covers the hole in the cd. Let dry and then decorate with glitter or paint. To hang it you push a paper clip into the styrofoam for a hook and use fishing line to hang.

You can also make toilet paper rolls into comets. Spray paint empty toilet paper rolls and let dry. Then at one end of the roll punch holes around the base. Use yarn, tissue paper or ribbon and string it through the holes making it long in length so that the comet has tails. At the other end of the toilet paper roll punch two holes and tie string or fishing line through there for a hanger. Very cool decoration.

The last decoration idea I have is take a sheet of construction paper and divide it into four parts cutting each square out. Simply round of the corners and cut in a circle so that you end up with a spiral for hanging from the ceiling.

Oh Yeah!! We also are making a super star prayer request board. So that if any of the children have prayer requests they can take a construction paper star and write it down and at opening and closing we will pray for those up on our prayer board.
