We just finished up our VBS week, the program is tomorrow. I added some photos to our page. www.hickoryridgechurch.com click on the Bible School page. We used black landscaping plastic for our main wall, then added posterboard cutouts of the Operation Space letters, sprayed them with glitter. We added blacklights (makes the posterboard glow) and we also added a glow-in-the dark cross made by stars. We hung inflatable planets from the lights in the ceiling (find them at Oriental trading), we used the black plastic for the windows, and put glow stars on them as well. We will be putting glow necklaces & bracelets on the kids, and glow paint on their hands & face. We will have them sing "Blast Off" in the dark! We made a chimp costume, and he was our mascot. His name is "Ham" and he was the "first" chimp in space. THE KIDS LOVED IT! I will add more pictures tomorrow! We are hoping to re-enforce the lessons by taking the kids to the Creation Museum sometime, but right now our budget doesn't allow it. Please pray for us!

Sounds great! We are starting ours on Monday. Any suggestions on things we should or shouldnt do? Anything that you wish you did or wish you had time for? Regardless, thanks for the update!

hickoryridgechurch -- Thanks for sharing your ideas and photos. It is helpful to learn what others are doing. I hope other churches will do the same and share their report of VBS Operation Space and how God worked!

You're welcome. The best advice I can give is to not rush through your lessons. What I did was pick a couple of things from each day that I could use during classroom time, and if I had enough time left over I would do the other stuff. Make sure the kids know each days letter, what it stands for, and each days memory verse. We didn't work in our workbooks, I sent them home with the kids at the end of the week. I have to tell you that my preteens really enjoyed the lessons, and the activities that go with them! Their favorite was the "recipe earth" one we did on day 3! It was hilarious! I had 2 of my students do it, instead of me and a helper. It seemed to work better that way. I wish we had more time to learn the handshakes!
